Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

Moisture Sensor and Meter

8/5/2021 (Permalink)

Here at SERVPRO of Monrovia, we make sure that all water restoration projects are done properly to exceed customer expectations. To make sure of that, it is important for us to use the proper equipment. Our technicians are trained and have lots of experience using water restoration equipment, but we think it would be helpful for you to have an understanding of some of these tools as well. This would let you gain a better understanding of the project and the steps that we take to inspect the area.

There are many pieces of equipment that we use in the water restoration process, but we will focus on two inspection tools since those are the most simple to use and are more readily available for someone like you to use. The first piece of equipment is the moisture sensor. The moisture sensor is used to detect moisture in carpets and padding. Since carpets and padding have fabric and cushioning, the moisture sensor makes it easy for us to check for moisture on the subfloor underneath the carpet because of the sharp probes that can penetrate through the padding. If the moisture sensor detects moisture, it will light up and beep. The more moisture there is, the faster the light will blink and the faster the beeping occurs. For items other than carpet and pads, a moisture meter will be used. The moisture meter measures the moisture levels in drywall, wood, or plaster. Since the moisture meter does not have sharp probes, it is simply placed on a surface to measure the level of moisture. It will show a number that, depending on the meter, could range from 0 to 100. That number is the measure of moisture and will also have a corresponding color such as green for little to no moisture, yellow for moderate moisture, and red for lots of moisture. This tool makes it simple to detect moisture and know how much moisture is present in an area. Both the moisture sensor and the moisture meter are tools that someone like you can use if you suspect moisture within your home. If the tools detect moisture within your home then it would be a good idea to get in contact with someone who can further diagnose the problem such as one of our technicians here at SERVPRO of Monrovia.
